RIVERSUN SUMMER BLENDS

Late last year Geoff and Anna Thorpe at Riversun here in Gisborne worked on a range of beautiful summer blends using our First Press grape juices and the South Island spirit Broken Shed vodka. 

Teamed with Luke Calder, Mixologist, they came up with four summer cocktails each showcasing one of our First Press grape juices varietals: Chardonnay, Merlot, Rose, and Gewurtztraminer.

We here at Gisborne Gourmet are excited to be able to share with you these inspiring confections.

MOONHOPPER

VODKA & CHARDONNAY GRAPE JUICE
Balancing  rounded golden fruit Chardonnay with the zing of fresh ginger, the effervescent Moonhopper provides an uplifting pick-me-up on a late summer afternoon.
3 thin slices of fresh ginger
A splash of Broken Shed Vodka
Muddle
45ml Broken Shed Vodka
60ml First Press Chardonnay
Top with ice and add a splash of soda
Stir
Serve in a stemless wine glass

FLIPPER
 

VODKA & MERLOT GRAPE JUICE
Velvety Merlot and strawberries create a festive tipple with a twist - or two - of black pepper. Ripe, ruby and delicious, kick on into the New Year with the Flipper.
Into a cocktail shaker add:
4 hulled strawberries
2 twists of freshly ground black pepper
muddle
45ml Broken Shed vodka
60ml First Press Merlot 
Add ice
Shake and strain into a martini glass

SWINGBALL

VODKA & ROSE GRAPE JUICE
Like halcyon summer days, the Swingball is perfect for a lively fathering. Delicate, floral rose is served up with crisp apple and refreshing herbs - go on... glass in one hand, bat in other.
1/8 apple, peeled and thinly sliced
Straight into a rocks glass*
Add 4 leaves each of mint and basil
Muddle
45ml Broken Shed vodka
Stack with ice
60ml First Press Rose
Do not stir
*Up the quantities and mix a pitcher to share

SKINNY DIP

VODKA & GEWURTZTRAMINER GRAPE JUICE
Dive deep into the sultry summer abandon with the Skinny Dip. The elegant aromatics of Gewurtztraminer intertwine with exuberant pops of passionfruit and mint.
1 tsp passionfruit pulp and 4 mint leaves
Muddle
45ml Broken Shed vodka
60ml First Press Gewurtztraminer
Top with ice and stir
Or add a splash of soda and stir
Serve in a highball glass
